Welcome to:

The Wizards Vale BBS

The Wizards' Vale was a Computer Bulletin Board System (BBS). BBS' were the predecessor to what everyone today knows as the Internet. Individuals such as myself would dedicate a computer and phone line (perhaps even multiple phone lines) for "users" all around the world to call and connect. These users could post messages on message boards, transfer files to and from the BBS, chat with the System Operator (SysOp) and, if there were multiple phone lines, with other users. Most users chose handles. Some of the larger BBS' expanded to hundreds of phone lines and tens of thousands of users. America Online, Compuserve, Prodigy and others swelled and ultimately, connected their users to the Internet.

At its peak, The Wizards Vale had over 1000 users from all over the world utilizing three phone lines. It started on a measly Commodore 64 with a Mighty Mo modem in the early 1980's and eventually upgraded to a Commodore 128 and then a Commodore Amiga with over a gigabyte of data and files (which was quite a feat back in the 80's and 90's). The Vale was also the first BBS on Long Island: (i) to upgrade to 2400 baud (yes, it even started on a 300 baud modem and had users logging on at 110 baud); (ii) to run the C-Net Amiga BBS program; and (iii) to run a hard drive on a Commodore 128 BBS.

If you used to be user on my system and stumble upon this page, please e-mail me. I'll send you a scan of your User Profile Index card I still keep on file.

Here are scans of some of the manuals I used. Email me for the password. You may need to manually load the thumbnails depending on your browser settings. If you get an insecure connection error, try: https://www.wizardsvale.com/

Pictures of some of the modems I used. The US Robotics and Supra’s were purchased through their SysOp program where they gave huge discounts on their modems to SysOps if we advertised that we used them on our system:
